Goal

Create a logo that embodies my values while being versatile for use across various media.

Ideation

Keywords & Moodboarding

My logo reflects my core values:

  • Simplicity: Clean, minimalistic design.
  • Accessibility: Readable, inclusive design that works for diverse audiences.
  • Vermont Roots: Subtle incorporation of natural elements like mountains, trees, and/or greenery.

Keywords: Minimalistic, Accessible, Nature-Inspired, Grounded.

To establish the visual direction, I curated a moodboard featuring:

  • Color palettes with earth tones, especially greens and browns.
  • Examples of sleek and modern sans-serif typography.
  • Iconography inspired by Vermont landscapes (ex: trees, mountains).
  • Minimalist logo designs from other brands.

I used Pinterest to find the images for this moodboard.

Sketches

Initial sketches explored:

  • Monogram ideas using “MM.”
  • Abstract icons combining natural elements (leaves, mountains) with bold, modern geometric shapes.
  • Typography-first, enhanced with subtle Vermont-inspired details.

Refinement

Keywords & Moodboarding

Sketches were refined into vector-based drafts:

  • Monogram: “MM” with natural imagery.
  • Full Name: Typography first, with hidden imagery.
  • Geometric shapes & badge logos

Typography & Color

Typography: The final design uses a modern sans-serif font for its clean and modern look.

  • Primary typeface: Akira Expanded
  • Secondary typeface: Poppins

Color Palette: Earth tones reflecting Vermont’s natural beauty:

Accessibility: I put extra thought into ensuring the colors I chose, and the combinations of them, meet WCAG Level AAA standards. I used an accessible color palette tool to make sure the combinations had strong enough contrast.

Brand Pattern

A seamless brand pattern was created using elements of the logo:

  • A topographic map design inspired by Vermont’s landscapes.
  • Designed for use in backgrounds, business cards, and social media.

This brand pattern can be edited to fit different color schemes, making it the perfect pattern to incorporate on each of my portfolio pages—effectively combining my personal brand with the projects I am working on.

Reflection

A Look BACK

Overall, I am very satisfied with the logo design! The process allowed me to fully explore my design process and bring together simplicity, accessibility, and my Vermont roots in a cohesive visual identity. The feedback I received (from family, friends, and peers) during the process confirmed that the design resonates with both my values and my target audience.

A Look Forward

Moving forward, I plan to expand the application of my personal brand by integrating the logo and brand pattern into new materials, such as presentation templates, email signatures, and portfolio updates. This cohesive branding will support my professional growth as I continue to establish my presence as a UX designer and brand identity specialist.
